Akshar Rachna (Part क) for LKG is where Hindi writing gets harder, and where this book does its most careful work. Consonants such as च, छ and झ have more strokes and tighter turns than the vowels a child learned in Nursery. So before each new letter, the book has the child practise the one tricky stroke that letter depends on. Only then does the full letter appear, numbered stroke by stroke and paired with a picture word like चरखा, छतरी, जग or झंडा. The book covers every consonant from क to ज्ञ, including the conjuncts क्ष, त्र and ज्ञ, taught in their traditional वर्ग (groups) with a revision page after each group. The book has 96 pages, measures 18 x 24 cm and is pin bound.

Why Vyanjan Need a Different Approach

A child who has learned अ and आ has learned shapes that are mostly lines and open curves. Hindi consonants are a step up. च has a sharp hook, झ has three changes of direction in one letter, and ञ looks like nothing a child has seen before. When an LKG child is handed a full consonant to copy, the usual result is a wobbly letter and a frustrated child.

Akshar Rachna Part क breaks that problem down. Before a new letter appears, the child fills a page with just its hardest stroke, for example the hooked curve that forms the body of च. Once that stroke comes out right without thinking, the full letter is introduced. By then, the child already knows the most difficult part of it.

Inside the Book: Varga by Varga

The book covers the complete set of Hindi consonants, from क to ज्ञ. They follow the traditional order of the varnamala: क-वर्ग, च-वर्ग, ट-वर्ग, त-वर्ग and प-वर्ग, then य र ल व, श ष स ह, and finally the conjuncts क्ष, त्र and ज्ञ. Every letter goes through the same sequence:

Stroke drill: a full page of the key stroke the next letter is built from.
Letter model: the consonant printed large, with numbers showing the order and direction of each stroke.
Picture word: a colour illustration that starts with that sound, for example चरखा, छतरी, जग and झंडा.
Tracing to free writing: dotted letters on four-line ruling, fading to a single starting dot.
Group revision: an अभ्यास page after each varga, such as क ख ग घ ङ, or च छ ज झ ञ, written side by side.

The group revision pages are where real learning shows. Writing घ next to ग, or झ next to ज, makes a child notice the small differences between letters that look alike. Every page also carries a दिनांक (date) line for daily tracking.

One honest detail parents notice: ञ has no picture. Very few everyday Hindi words begin with ञ, so the book teaches its shape on its own rather than forcing an unfamiliar word on a four-year-old.

Before and After This Book

Part क for LKG is the second of five Akshar Rachna books. A child arriving here should already be able to write the Hindi swar, which is what Akshar Rachna Part क for Nursery covers. After finishing the consonants, the child moves to Akshar Rachna Part ख for LKG, which joins letters into first two-letter words such as जल, फल, कप and घर. The two UKG books then add matras and longer words.
